SWET stands for Summer Wednesday Evening Training run – the brainchild of club member Graham Turner. While we have to run the same training routes around the street-lit roads of Thame in the winter months, Graham suggested that once the longer evenings allowed, the club should take advantage of the many, varied and beautiful off-road running trails in the countryside around Thame. Starting around the turn of the century, the concept is one where club members volunteer to take responsibility for a SWET run. This involves identifying a village pub with a running route starting from the pub car park at 7.00 pm, ideally nearly all off-road, and returning to the pub between 8.00 and 8.15 pm. The organiser should contact the pub landlord to check if parking is okay and advance notice of 20-30 thirsty runners coming in for a drink after the run. As the pace of the club varies, we normally have a slower group doing anything from 4.5 to 5.5 miles, and a faster group which could cover up to 7 miles. Both groups have leaders who know the route. As these are new routes for most people, we never want to leave runners behind and leaders will check everyone is together and regroup if necessary. Please turn up on time (6.50 pm) so we can run prompt at 7.
